Sounds good!

The burning question of the hour: How did you opt to record the show? Acid? Some other program?

Welcome to the club!

I downloaded the MP3 manually, but your RSS feed doesn't work in my Podcast aggregator...

A little too long for my tastes ( give me bite-size pieces and I'm more likely to listen!), but many kudos for doing this.

Podcasts are the shizzle.

Thanks for the feedback, Diego and Everdred. We'll see about shortening the segments and figure out why it won't show up in a Podcast aggregator. That one's a mystery.

Effern, we captured the audio from an Audio Technica mic using River Past Audio Capture 5.3 on a PC. It was edited and mixed with Adobe Audition.

I'm totally guessing, but from perusing many podcasts and podcast how-tos, it seems the majority of shows are created on Macs. At the November Bloggercon, it was a sea of Macs in the audience.

Ben, the sound quality was excellent! It sounded professional yet not so professional it came of as being overly produced.

I agree that bite-size chunks would increase the 'listenability' of your podcast.

Overall, well done. Looks like you two have so-called 'first mover advantage' since there ain't many (if any) business/marketing podcasts out there.

"Looks like you two have so-called 'first mover advantage' since there ain't many (if any) business/marketing podcasts out there."

Ouch, my pride. :-)

Hey, about the bite sized chunks, eh. I think it can be good if you're really talking about something short and sweet like "our picks for best slide show software", but Marketing is such a huge topic that there's never enough and never too much. I try to maintain a hard limit of 60 minutes (US) on my shows. But you'll find your groove. You're well on your way.

Re: Getting the RSS to work:

I know you're familiar with FeedBurner, since you use it for your full posts feed. They have an option called "SmartCast" that will automatically add any media files that you link to as RSS Feed enclosures.

Effern ... okay, you are the business podcast pioneer and you have the true first mover advantage. However, I think a few biz/mktg podcasters can share the tag of having 'first mover advantage.'

Jones, thanks for the tip. As a result, I flipped the SmartCast switch on for FeedBurner. I'm hoping that will soon create the automatic feed for Doppler, iPodder, etc.

Naw, I'm no pioneer, just messing with you.

Welcome to the podcasting fold! Can't wait to listen to this!

Yeah, as Effern said. Ouch :) (www.communityguy.com - my community related podcast)

Off to try the RSS feed!

I love the podcast! Anything that mentions SaveSURGE.org is great with me ;)

Seriously, best of luck with the show!

Brilliant! Perfect length. Reminds me of what the guys at Eureka Ranch were doing with the Brain Brew radio show. Such a professional production. Perhaps you could do a show on the equip/techno/process you use to make such a great product...Napsterize that knowledge please!

Nice piece. I agree that citizen marketers (we call them digital consumers) are the new marketplace and that open source marketing is the way they can be reached. I have written a change this manifesto called. "What is Open Source Marketing?" that will be up next week.

I thought the length was perfect, gives you some time to develop ideas.

Just on the citizen marketer tip, I noticed a couple of weeks back that Tecmo sued two people who had been involved in making mods, in the form of new character skins, for some of their Xbox games.

http://securityfocus.com/news/10466

Reminds me of the VW problem you discuss in the mp3, in that it's not necessarily what the company wants, but still someone putting in a lot of effort to customising their game.

Ben and Jackie that was great and so was sound quality. I really enjoyed it and you gave great examples. When is the next one!

Ian and Austin, thanks for the comments.

Ian, thanks for the tip on Tecmo. Sounds lke a perfect example (of what not to do).

Austin, I think we'll be doing another one this week. That's the beauty of podcasting, isn't it -- we can produce a show whenever the time is right.

Ben and Jackie I really enjoyed the podcast. It was well paced and the timing between you two was very smooth and slick.

I'm getting back into marketing after quite a long break. I've got one great product my customers largely sell for me. But I'm finding getting traction on the new product, Surfulater (www.surfulater.com), hard going, but I know I'll get there. So much has changed in the past 5+ years and I need to gather and learn a bunch of new techniques. I look forward to spending more time on your site and to future podcasts to help push me along.

Now for the crunch. I'm a one-man-band and I'd love to hear you folks talk about how people like me in "tiny" companies can apply some of your ideas. We don't have the luxury of dedicated marketing people, no one to delegate to, limited financial resources to pay outside companies to do work for us etc.etc. But we have the passion, we work hard and we produce products that people like and want to use.

So there's my input. I'll listen enthusiastically to see if you have some sage advice for us mini-businesses.

Very informative, great audio quality, entertaining, perfect length (could be longer), great repartee between you two, excellent show notes. Looking forward to your next podcast.

I think www.chooseopera.com is atleast as good an example of a good customer evangelist site as Spread Firefox - Choose Opera actually explains why one would want to choose Opera instead of competitors.
